Who we are

International Advisory Board

The International Advisory Board of the Ethiopian Organization for Cancer Prevention and Research (CPR – Ethiopia) consists of a network of leading academic experts and clinicians. Members are appointed for their expertise in a field relevant to cancer control research, and for their availability for consultation when we need it. The advice they provide is high-level, and it is given on an individual research project basis.

What the board does

Its work is at the level of the individual project. A member is consulted where a particular study calls for a particular kind of expertise, and the advice is given for that study. Research projects are also reviewed by the Scientific Research Committee to ensure that ethical standards are met and that the confidentiality of participants’ information is protected; the governance page sets out what each body does.

Where a study has been advised on by a member of the International Advisory Board, that is recorded with the study itself.

The fields the programme covers

The research programme runs across behavioural science, health services research and economics, and tobacco control. Much of it works from national indicator data: Ethiopia’s cancer surveillance and screening indicators are recorded in the WHO Global Health Observatory (opens in a new tab) (indicator NCD_CCS_PBCR for population-based registration), and the national cancer burden is estimated by IARC. Advice is sought most often where a study depends on evidence of that kind.
